§LORE FRAGMENTS
Every molt leaves the old shape standing empty on the seafloor, facing the same direction it died facing.
It has broken off its own claw eleven times. Eleven times it has grown back larger.
The younger ones don't scatter when it passes. They fall in line, single file, like they were always going to.
The current changes direction half a mile before it does. Something down there is telling the water first.
We stopped counting the shells. There were supposed to be one per year. There are hundreds now.
§THE TOLL
The toll is measured in shells, not coin. Every visitor leaves something behind that used to fit them — a name, a habit, a version of themselves grown too small to wear. The molt takes it gladly and gives nothing back but room to grow.
§RITES
-
FIRST RITE — CAST THE SHELL
Give up something that no longer fits. Say its name once, out loud, before you let it go.
-
SECOND RITE — HOLD THE LINE
Stand still while the current changes around you. Do not be the one who moves first.
-
THIRD RITE — MARK THE BROOD
Bring one more claw to the circle. The crown does not form with fewer than three.
-
FOURTH RITE — WEAR THE CRACK
Take the mark as your own. Let the surface see where you have already broken.
§FEVER DIARY
Found another shell on the tideline this morning. Same size as the last one. Same size as me.
I keep touching my own arm to check it's still the same length it was yesterday. It always is. I keep checking anyway.
Day 29. it doesnt molt to grow anymore it molts to see what's underneath

§ORIGIN
Before the name, there was only the shedding — a shape too big for the seafloor, leaving pieces of itself behind like a note it expected someone to read eventually. The fishers who found the first shell called it Moltrax because it kept happening, over and over, always a little larger than the last. Nobody has found where it stops.
